This position is responsible for managing plant safety programs to ensure safe and accident-free work environment. Implements safety programs to provide the road map to zero injuries and world class performance. Plans and/or delivers programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices. Promotes plant safety by working with all departments to analyze current situation and recommend safety improvements. Analyzes accident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented.

Maintain OSHA required records and reports. Coordinates compliance driven safety such as annual audiograms, industrial hygiene surveys, respirator fit testing, CPR/First Aid, HAZMAT response training, etc. Handles and defends any OSHA complaints, audits etc.

A background in Workers Compensation loss control preferably with insurance company experience. THE POSITION :

The Safety Coordinator/Investigator reports to the Risk Management Division of the Office of County Counsel and, under general direction, plans, organizes and coordinates occupational safety programs and training for assigned County department(s); coordinates the departmental Workers' Compensation Program and legal response to tort claims involving the assigned department(s); conducts investigations and field inspections; and performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have a hands on and adaptable management style with outstanding interpersonal skills to effectively gather information from various sources to manage claims and meet departmental needs, while containing costs. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides for the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

Education: College course work equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major study in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; education may include completed courses or certification in environmental, health, safety, or loss control topics; and

Experience: Three years of professional experience in the administration of occupational health and safety programs including employee training, conducting workplace and incident investigations and at least one year experience administering an employee drug and alcohol testing program. Experience in program administration within a public entity is highly desirable.
