Description
The incumbent will
be responsible for establishing and assuring a “zero
injury, zero incident” work environment in our Sacramento operation.
Initial activities will include demolition & construction activities
consisting of; civil, mechanical, and high energy electrical
work sites and equipment installation. In
this role, the incumbent will eventually transition to be responsible
for supporting Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) compliance programs
for an industrial manufacturing facility.
Duties & Requirements:
1. Conducts, documents, and follows up on EHS field audits of contractor
and employee worksites to assure that the most protective and reasonable
means of personnel safety assurance is implemented and maintained throughout
the construction and manufacturing operations.
2. Participate in collaborative teams to execute Job Hazard
Analyses for sequential project tasks and assure that hazards and both
standard and innovative safeguards have been identified prior to the
scheduled commencement of each work task.
3. Issue work permits after assuring that hazards have been
comprehended and properly mitigated prior to beginning work.
4. Provides training and instruction on various EHS topics.
5. Conduct inspections of EHS equipment and instrumentation.
6. Participates in procedure development regarding EHS areas
of concern.
7. Prepares data and submits information regarding EHS for
both company directed and regulatory required reports.
8. Conduct field sampling for Asbestos, lead, ventilation etc.
9. Operate various EHS equipment such as: Sound Level Meters,
Noise Dosimeters, Colorimetric Tubes, personal sampling pumps, and velometers.
10. The incumbent is expected to spend at least 75% of each
work shift engaged in field activities.
11. Physical requirements: Climb ladders, carry up to 50 pounds
for short periods of time, enter confined spaces, and work with hazardous
chemicals.
Experience:
1. Minimum of 5 years of successful field construction site
safety and environmental compliance experience with emphasis on detailed
knowledge and field practical application of relevant provincial environmental,
health, and safety regulations.
2. Minimum of 2 years experience in a multi-employer construction
work site
3. Experience profiling or managing hazardous waste/materials.
4. Experience in material handling safety (cranes, rigging,
off-road lift trucks)
5. Preferred experience in semiconductor industry.
Education:
1. Degree in EH&S related field desired.
2. Documented training in an approved provincial EH&S program is
required
3. Associate or Certified Safety Professional certification
is desired.

CHEMICAL SAFETY ENGINEER
Perform health and
safety assignments using safety concepts and principles to anticipate,
identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety and health hazards
for manufacturing, laboratory, and maintenance work areas and
activities. Areas of focus include manufacturing operations, chemical
handling and
storage, equipment isolation (lockout/ tagout, line breaking),
fire prevention (including hot work), confined spaces, material handling
(forklifts, cranes/hoists), IIPP implementation, and emergency
response.
Develop and conduct safety meetings and employee training programs.
Maintain safety-related recordkeeping consistent with OSHA
requirements. Promote safety culture and assist with achieving established
goals.
Provide guidance to facilities, engineering, operations, and
maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA’s PSM regulation. Coordinate
with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, risk insurers, internal
customers on safety issues. Provide backup for other function within
EH&S, especially Industrial Hygiene.
REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or related science
and 5 years of directly related technical experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience required. Experience in applying
OSHA regulations, building and fire codes, and related regulations
and standards. Practical experience with the development and implementation
of safety programs related to the pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing
industry strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal
skills needed to participate on or lead a team. Must be capable of
creating and communicating safety information to diverse audiences.

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST
Under general direction, performs industrial hygiene assignments requiring
a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in
the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
Typical responsibilities include:
• Provides imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to
a wide range of technical problems involving the conventional
utilization of industrial hygiene techniques.
• Conceives and plans projects involving the development of new
methods to attain objectives.
• Recognizes, evaluates and recommends measures for control of
chemical, safety, and physical hazards present at the work
site.
• Designs and conducts monitoring and training programs.
• Maintains knowledge of existing and proposed changes in industrial
health and safety regulations.
• Maintains, prepares, uses and procures industrial health testing

• Makes recommendations and presentations based on accepted industrial
health scientific methodology.
• Keeps current within area of specialty in support of project
assignments.
